![]() ![]() He said he was really proud of me for making an aggressive move, and figured I'd done it strategically. He did have his play style toned down a bit when we first started playing from what I can tell. After playing multiple times with the same group, he felt that we were all improving. Some things that were communicated that I didn't fully appreciate at the time, but I see now. I've talked to my boyfriend about this a bit more. He told me that he isn't going to play games with me anymore so it won't be a problem anymore, and then apologized. I told him that trading is an important part of the game and that it is his own fault for upsetting me so much, and that he would have had a better chance of winning if he just played fair. He said that it wasn't the same thing, and that he was playing the game but I was actively not playing the game by focusing on ruining his fun. He was being really mean to me and I wanted to do the same to him. I said that he did the same thing for me. He said that he felt embarrassed, and that I ruined the night for him. When everyone left I asked if he was okay. He tried to smile and say good game but I could tell he was upset. The woman from the other couple ended up winning. On his turn he would say what he was doing quietly and then go back to being silent. His face was a bit red, and he wasn't making eye contact with anyone. We kept playing this way for awhile and the situation became a bit tense. He got all quiet and I could see he wasn't having fun anymore. So I'd take 1 sheep for 4 of my resources. At first I wanted to just give them everything, but my boyfriend said it has to be a real trade. I decided I would start working with whomever had the best chance to beat my boyfriend. I decided it was from that point on to blow his game up. I asked why, and he said "You cut me off, now you are a threat." and then he gave me a sly smile. I apparently cut off his road at some point. Usually he takes it somewhat easy on me because he knows I am not into the game all that much, it's just fun for me to be with friends. This past weekend my boyfriend was being ruthless to me. He plays as many "Knight" cards as he can get which allows you to steal resources from players, as well as blocking resources from being created on a tile. His favorite strategy involves being the "warlord" as he calls it. He plays ruthlessly, callously and maliciously. I've played it with him a few times (maybe 6 or 7) and he has won every time. This is especially true with Catan, which is a board game that he adores. He has told me that it is intertwined with his Asperger's, and while he has gotten better about it as he's gotten older it is still something he is working on. We've spoken about it before, and he is aware of it. But when "competing" he becomes cold, quiet and somewhat manipulative. Normally he is this sweet, caring and loving man who I trust deeply. Whenever there is a game being played he gets very serious and acts like a completely different person. My boyfriend is a great guy, but his one major fault is his competitive nature. ![]()
